3D simulations

Conformally rescaled Einstein equations evolved in 3D.

3D evolutions of systems of binary compact objects on hyperboloidal slices will allow to extract their gravitational waves at future null infinity without approximations. Other possible options are Cauchy-characteristic evolution and Cauchy-characteristic matching.

After evolving the massless wave equation on a fixed hyperboloidal background within the NRPy+ code,

Massless scalar field evolved on hyperboloidal slices of Minkowski spacetime. The initial perturbation (spherically symmetric on the left and without symmetries on the right) is reflected at the centre (r=0) and propagates out of the domain through future null infinity, located at the circumference of the circle. Evolutions are shown for a specific value of the polar angle.

the Einstein equations were also implemented:

3D hyperboloidal simulation of gauge waves: the perturbation is shown on the left, while its effects can be seen on a specific evolution variable in the centre (for fixed polar angle) and right (for fixed revolution angle) plots.

This project is currently work in progress, as I’m testing its robustness and convergence. :)
